Mitsubishi Mini Split AC Installation Provides Zoned Heating and Cooling for Concord, MA Colonial Home

Ductless Units Provide Zoned Heating And Cooling for Concord MA Colonial

At some point, every home will need an HVAC upgrade. An older system is breaking down, or there are just better options out there. With this colonial in Concord MA, the heating and cooling system wasn’t broken, it just wasn’t the best.

This family had oil heat, but that wasn’t enough. This house had quite a few rooms that never quite warmed up properly.

And, it was an older home with no central air. Our homeowners relied on old window air conditioners to keep cool in the summer, which also never quite did the job.

It was time for an upgrade. The family chose NETR based on our outstanding reviews, and, we lived up to our reputation.

Problem: A colonial home in Concord MA had uneven heating and no central air.

Solution: Installed Mitsubishi ductless HVAC units in the living room, dining room, master bedroom and child’s bedroom connected to an outdoor condenser.

Upgrading HVAC in a Colonial Home

Colonial homes are common in New England. It’s an area of the country with plenty of history.

This particular home didn’t date back to the 1700s. But, it was a few decades old. As such, it left a lot to be desired when it came to comfort, particularly zoned heating and cooling.

Many of the rooms didn’t heat up quite enough. That was almost unusual because the home had oil heat. Oil burns hotter than, say, gas or electric. But, there were a few other factors at play here.

For one thing, the house had a large attic with windows. Attics like this draw and trap heat easily. That’s because, quite simply, hot air rises.

As the oil burner heats the home, that heat moves upwards. And, it keeps going until it reaches the attic. Once there, it’s trapped. Instead of heating the bedrooms, the hot air collects in the top of the house instead.

Downstairs was another HVAC problem: an enclosed porch. These are popular because they add more living space to the home. But, they are rarely equipped with heating vents.

This means there’s no way to heat them directly. So, they remain a little colder than the rest of the house. But, heat naturally moves toward cold. In this case, that heat is coming from the oil burner.

All the forced air pumped into the first floor moves toward the coldest spot: the porch. But, since the porch isn’t heated itself, it never quite gets as warm as other areas. So, it keeps drawing heat.

As for the summertime, the problem is much simpler: The house was built before homes had central air. Installing central air now would easily cost a few thousand dollars. And, today there are better options out there.

Increased Comfort with Ductless HVAC Systems

Mitsubishi electric cooling and heating in a Concord MA Colonial Home.

Adding a ductless HVAC system was clearly the way to go for this colonial. With ductless heating and cooling units, we can provide both heat and cool air. We don’t need to rework any ducts or vents. And, the family can set different parts of the house to different temperatures.

Here’s how a zoned ductless HVAC system with ductless units works: First, hot or cool air is generated from a heat pump outside. That treated air then travels through small, flexible tubing. Finally, it arrives at a ductless unit that’s installed high on a wall in a room inside the home.

As a result, the system is very easy to install and customize. For starters, that tubing is less than two inches wide. Since it’s skinny and bendable, our installers can run it through the walls like electric wires. We don’t need to map out new vents or hope the existing ductwork is in the best place.

This means we can place our ductless units in the best places possible. Downstairs, we figured out where to put the units so the porch would get some heat. But, it wouldn’t draw as much from the rest of the home.

And, each unit has its own thermostat. Each unit heats or cools a different area, or zone, in the house. Since our homeowners can set each one to a different temperature, they can boost the oil heat in the summer. And, in the summer they can push more cool air to the areas that need it the most.

Saving Money with Ductless Home Heating Systems

Using ductless units to create zoned HVAC is more than just convenient. It also saves our homeowners lot of money. That’s because they use less energy than other systems. And, using less energy means paying less money

The savings start outside with ductless home heating systems. A heat pump works in the cold weather by taking heat from outside, making it warmer, and spreading it through the house. In the summer, it takes hot air from the home and cools it off.

This is very different from forced air systems like gas, electric and oil. These create their own heat — and use a lot of energy to do so.

Ductless HVAC installation on the first floor of a Concord MA colonial-style homeInside, each unit has its own thermostat. This means they don’t all have to work as much as a single system. If one zone of the house takes longer to heat up in the winter, just that unit kicks on. The other units stay off.

And, the ductless units are working along with the oil burner. Now, the family can wait a few weeks more each year before turning on the more expensive oil heat. The ductless units and heat pump will keep them warm without the central heating before winter really hits.

Finally, there’s the summer. Now, the family doesn’t have to bother dragging out old window air conditioners to keep cool. And, they also don’t have to pay to run them.

Why Do Ductless Heat Pump Systems Cost Less?

As we mentioned, a ductless heat pump system costs less because it uses less energy than central HVAC systems. And, window air units use even more energy. They’re older and less efficient. Each summer, the family’s electric bill would skyrocket.

Now, however, they can stay cool without those high energy bills. And, they can set the climate control exactly how they want it, room by room.

Mitsubishi Ductless HVAC Installation Improves Heating and Cooling in Lincoln, MA Home

Mitsubishi HVAC improves heating and cooling in a Lincoln MA Conventional Home.

Older homes have a lot of character—but not always the best heating and cooling systems.

Our homeowner in Lincoln MA was ready to upgrade his nearly-70-year-old house. The current forced air system didn’t quite get the home warm enough. A few rooms had cold spots. And, there was no central air.

The homeowner called NETR after reading our outstanding reviews. And, he saw we are the number-one Elite Diamond Dealer for Mitsubishi HVAC products. He was confident we could deliver state-of-the-art climate control at a great price. And, he was right.

Problem: A Lincoln, MA conventional-style home built in 1950 had cold spots in the winter and no central air conditioning.

Solution: Installed two Mitsubishi ductless HVAC systems with wall mounted units in the living room and dining room connected to an outdoor condenser unit.

Upgrading a Conventional Home to Ductless HVAC

A zoned heating and cooling system is a great way to any older home. Ductless units use better technology than what was available decades ago. As a result, they’re able to provide better climate control for less money.

How Does a Ductless Mini Split Work?

Ductless HVAC systems are also very easy to install. For a long time, that process was a deal-breaker for many homeowners. Forced heat and central air rely on ductwork, vents and large, expensive units. That makes replacing a heating system is a big-ticket item. The same goes for putting in central air when there wasn’t a system like that before.

New ductwork can also cut down on the space in your home. Many times, installers need to use closet space or build out pathways along walls and ceilings. Getting the ducts where they need to go can be a hassle.

But, that’s not an issue with a ductless HVAC system. Here, all the forced heat and cool air travel through very small piping. The piping is bendable and just a few inches in diameter.

This means our installers can easily run it through the walls between the beams. They don’t even need to break out a wall and build a new one. The piping can be snaked through.

Mitsubishi Cooling System Installation in Lincoln MA.

Next, that piping connects to a ductless unit in a room. This is the part of the system that delivers the air. Since it doesn’t have to connect to existing ductwork, it can be mounted anywhere in the room. Our installers determine the best spot for it. Often, that’s high on a wall and in a corner of the room, out of the way.

Why You Need More Flexibility in Your Home Heating Options

Having this flexibility means a ductless system can completely overhaul the heating and cooling in your home. You don’t have to think about where the existing ducts and vents are. Instead, you can easily place each unit exactly where it needs to go.

This also comes into play with air conditioning. For years, the homeowner used window air conditioning units to cool the home in the summertime. A central system would cost less, look nice and work better. But, it would also cost a lot to install.

Instead, we installed a heat pump that provides heating and cooling through the same system. This way, the one system we installed provided extra heat in the winter and better cooling in the summer.

Zoned Heating and Cooling with a Mitsubishi Ductless System

Another big part of that flexibility is creating zoned heating and cooling. This means that each ductless unit in the home controls the climate in a different area, or zone. Each unit has its own thermostat that you can set to any temperature you want.

That’s important in a home like this. This homeowner wasn’t looking to get rid of his old forced air system. He just needed to add a little more power and efficiency to it.

Zoned HVAC with a Mitsubishi system helps him do just that. Setting each unit to a different temperature means you can account for uneven heating and cooling. This is when one part of the house is hotter or colder than another.

Often, the reason for this is a single thermostat. Most central systems rely on one thermostat to tell it when to turn on and off. It’s usually located on the first floor.

But, the temperature isn’t always the same in different parts of the house. Let’s say the upstairs is still cold when the room with the thermostat reaches the desired temperature. The heater shuts off before the upstairs rooms warm up.

Or, perhaps there’s a room that gets warmer than the one with the thermostat. The heater continues heating that room well past the desired temperature. That’s because the system stays on until the room with the thermostat hits the right temperature.

A ductless system eliminates this problem. Now, each unit can turn on and off on its own. If the upstairs takes longer to heat, that unit keeps working when others shut off. And, a unit downstairs will run for less time if that zone heats up faster than others.

It’s also a great benefit in the summer. In most cases, people use their bedrooms at night and the downstairs in the morning. With central air, you’d have to keep the whole house cool at once. Not so with a ductless system.

Now, our homeowner can set his zones differently. His bedroom can cool down when he’s ready to sleep. Then, when he’s ready to use the rest of the house, he can power down that zone while treating the downstairs a little more.

Saving Money with Zoned HVAC and Ductless Units

As you can imagine, zoned HVAC saves money on monthly energy bills. When you’re not using as much energy every month, you pay less. That’s certainly true here. But, that’s only part of the story.

Mitsubishi outdoor heat pump condenser in Lincoln MA

The savings actually start outside the home. That’s where the outdoor condenser is located.

Unlike a forced air system, a heat pump does not have to generate its own heat. Instead, it draws in the heat that exists outside. Then, it warms that air further using a heat transfer system. Finally, the piping and HVAC units distribute that air throughout the house.

In the summer, the opposite occurs: The system draws warm air from the home and cools it with a heat transfer process. Then the system delivers that cooled air back into the home.

The big difference here is that the heat pump does not burn fossil fuels to produce the heat. That’s the bulk of your energy bills with electric, gas or oil. Instead, the heat pump uses just a small amount of electricity to run.

And, the amount of electricity the heat pump requires is lowered even further due to the zoned system. Unlike a central system, it doesn’t have to overheat or over-cool some areas of the home to get problems spots to the desired temperature.

All this adds up to more comfort, more customization — and lower bill each month for our homeowner.

Concord, MA Ranch Homeowner Replaces Old Window Units with Mitsubishi Electric Ductless system

Ductless HVAC Systems Replaces Window Air Conditioners in Concord, MA ranch

Ranch homes have been a very popular style of home in suburbs around the country for decades. That means many of them have been around since before central air conditioners were available in houses.

That was the case with this ranch home in Concord, MA. It’s spacious with an attached garage. But, it never had central air. And, installing it would have been a big job. That’s prevented our homeowner from putting one in.

So for years, she’s used window air conditioners to stay cool in the summer. But, they’re not exactly the best option. They’re loud, they’re clunky and they use up lots of energy.

It was time for a change. Our homeowner wanted something that was quiet, efficient, cost less than the window units and is easy to maintain. This, basically, is the opposite of the window units she’d had for years.

Our homeowner called NETR after reading our outstanding reviews. And, she saw that we are the number-one Elite Diamond Dealer for Mitsubishi products. Sure enough, we designed a ductless cooling system that met all her requirements.

Problem: A ranch home never had central air conditioning. The homeowner used window air conditioners.

Solution: Installed a two-zone Mitsubishi Ductless System in the living room and family room and a matching outdoor heat pump condenser.

Ductless HVAC Versus Central Air or Window Units

Ranch homes became popular in the 1950s. After World War II, suburban communities began springing up all over the country. Ranch-style houses began in the southwest and then caught on all over the country.

However, central air conditioning for homes wasn’t widely available until the 1970s. So, for at least two decades, homes like this weren’t built with that option. This house was one of them.

Of course, adding central air is an option. But, it’s an expensive one. You have to buy a large, outdoor condenser for starters. And, installers have to connect it to existing ductwork.

This isn’t necessarily a problem. But, if the ductwork is also old, it may not be in tip-top shape. That means even a new a/c unit may not work at its best. And, you can’t put the vents in the best places for air conditioning. You have to use what’s already there.

That’s why so many people, like our homeowner, opted for window units. But, there are drawbacks here, too. They are not energy-efficient, for starters. Electric bills skyrocket in the summertime when people use them.

They’re also noisy. And, they require work over the years. The average window unit lasts ten years — if you treat it right.  You have to store it under the right conditions and clean out the coils every year. You also need to watch for warning signs of a problem like ice or frost buildup or signs of insects.

That’s where a ductless HVAC system comes in. It works just as well, if not better than a central air system. But, it doesn’t require all the installation work. And, you can place the units, which distribute the cool air, anywhere you want.

More About the Benefits of Ductless Mini Split Systems

Ductless HVAC unit installation in a Concord, MA ranch home

Ductless mini split systems are also whisper-quiet, unlike a window air conditioner. And, since the units stay up year-round, there’s no need to move or clean them out each year.

Much of this is due to how they work. The ductless mini split system is similar to central air in that the outdoor units deliver air throughout the house. But after that, they’re very different.

With ductless, the cool air travels through very small, flexible tubing. This is in place of ducts. Our installers simply drill a small hole, less than three inches around, in the side of the home near the outdoor unit. Then, they snake the tubing through the walls until it reaches the room where the unit goes.

Click Here to Select Your Town

This makes ductless HVAC installation simple. We can install the unit anywhere on a wall. Usually, it goes up near the ceiling. Then, installers drill a small hole behind where the unit goes to bring in the tubing. You’ll never see the hole because the units cover it.

From there, the tubing connects to the unit, which distributes the air. It’s as simple as that!

Zoned HVAC for Increased Comfort

Of course, the advantages of ductless HVAC don’t stop with the installation. Using more than one unit, like our homeowner did, allows the user to create multiple zones of heating and cooling in their home.

Each unit uses has its own thermostat. This is unlike a central unit, where one thermostat controls the whole house. Instead, each unit handles a zone of the house.

In this case, our homeowner made her home office one zone and the living room another. She can control the temperature in each one separately.

This means that if one zone cools down before the other, that unit will turn off. Then the other unit stays on until that zone is the right temperature. This way, the first area doesn’t get too cold because the whole house needed to be cooled until the warmest area was treated.

Or, our homeowner can set each one different temperatures. Perhaps she likes it a little cooler in her office, where she works during the day. Or, it’s ok for the family room to be a bit warmer.

With ductless units, she can set each zone to a different temperature. This means she’ll have the right climate control no matter where she is in her house.

Saving Money with a Mitsubishi Heater and Air Conditioner

Mitsubishi Electric HVAC Installation in Concord, MA

All these great benefits come with yet another big upside: cost savings. Our homeowner’s monthly energy bills will now be much lower in the summer now that she’s not using window units. In fact, they’re likely also lower than if she installed central air.

This happens for a few reason. First, the technology is just more efficient. The ductless system is designed to use much less energy than window units. Less energy means lower monthly bills.

Second, the zoned approach means the system runs less than a central system. Since each zone turns on and shuts off by itself, overall they all run for less time than air conditioning that cools the whole house as one piece.

From there, our homeowner can even opt to run them less if she wants. For instance, if she is never in her office past 6 p.m., she can turn off that unit around then. At the same time, she can use the one in the living room much less during the day if she’s usually not in there.

All this adds up to a great improvement over the window units this ranch home had for years.

Upgrading Heating and Cooling with Mitsubishi Ductless Air Conditioners in Concord MA

Concord, MA home adds contemporary heating and cooling comfort with Mitsubishi ductless HVAC.

Contemporary homes like this one in Concord MA are known for having uneven heating and cooling. With all the windows, dormers and sloped roof lines with varied ceiling heights, it can be a challenge to get the air circulation just right.

That's why, in the past, our homeowners opted to add Mitsubishi ductless air conditioner to their homes. The units evenly distribute cool air throughout the space better than standard window air conditioners.

Years later, the homeowners were still struggling in cooler weather with hot and cold spots, as their forced hot water oil heat with radiators weren’t getting the job done.

They were looking for a more permanent solution than relying on space heaters. This was especially true in the living room and kitchen areas.

When they gave us a call, we knew we could easily upgrade their current Mitsubishi electric ductless cooling system with a Mitsubishi Hyper Heat ductless system. The new system would ensure they got the year-round comfort they craved without costing them a fortune in energy bills.

Problem: A contemporary home in Concord MA added Mitsubishi ductless for cooling only a number of years ago, but were looking to add supplemental heating as well as cooling to their home.

Solution: Upgrading the older Mitsubishi ductless units with newer Mitsubishi Electric Hyper Heat ductless units will ensure the homeowners get the state of the art heating and cooling year round that they deserve.

Zoned HVAC Offers Even Heating and Cooling

Mitsubishi ductless ac provides this Concord MA kitchen with comfort all year long.

Mitsubishi Electric Ductless Heating and Air Conditioning systems are designed to create separate zones of heating and cooling in a home.  This allows you to get the perfect temperature exactly where you need it most.

Contemporary homes like this one were built before forced hot air heating and cooling was standard. Adding cooling with Mitsubishi ductless mini-split systems is an excellent choice, and one these homeowners had been really happy with for a number of years.

While you can opt to add just ductless AC, more and more homeowners are adding units that can both heat and cool the space they're in efficiently and effectively. This ensures you get year-round comfort.

Newer Heat Pumps Save on Energy Bills

In the past, heat pump systems were inefficient in colder weather; however, Mitsubishi Electric's new Hyper Heat systems provide cost-effective heating down to -13 degrees Fahrenheit. That's colder weather that we ever see here in the Boston area.

The ductless systems use a special inverter technology, similar to the expensive two-stage systems you see on high end, whole home systems. They are designed to use the minimum amount of energy necessary to keep your home perfectly comfortable.

The indoor units monitor your home for temperature and humidity, and use the smallest amount of energy possible to maintain your comfort level perfectly.

HOW DOES DUCTLESS WORK?

This efficiency, coupled with zoning, ends up saving many homeowners 35 to 40 percent on their energy bills!

Upgrading Ductless Units in a Contemporary Home

Concord MA contemporary living room is finally comfortable with Mitsubishi ductless heating and cooling

For this home, it was simple to replace the existing Mitsubishi ductless units with newer, upgraded Mitsubishi Electric Hyper Heat systems. The new units can deliver both heating and cooling on demand to the kitchen and living room areas that only had added cooling before.

Now, the homeowners will get the same state of the art cooling comfort they had before with heating as well. And, it's all delivered as quiet as a whisper.

What Does Added Heating Do for Homeowners

Many of our homeowners find that the supplemental heat provided by their Mitsubishi ductless units lets them add just that touch of heat they need on rainy spring days or those first frosty days of fall. Now, they can easily keep their home the perfect temperature.

This unit adds just enough heat to ensure everyone is more comfortable, but because of zoning, the family doesn't have to crank up the heat for the whole home to get the comfort they need in a specific room. This also means they can delay turning on the heat for the season for weeks, and even turn off the main heating system earlier in the Spring.

However, they can still get that small blast of heat they may want on unexpectedly clammy days, without needing an extra tank of oil for the main system.

What was Done to the Home

These home owners already had oil heating and would pull out the old window units when they needed to cool off. They were sick of the window units, which were noisy and inefficient.

They also took up an entire window all season long. They decided when they put their addition onto the home, they would also take care of the air units in the kitchen.

They wanted something that could heat and cool, while being energy efficient and low maintenance. So, they began researching the best solutions and they came across awesome reviews of the Mitsubishi Ductless Systems.

They decided to call NETR after seeing we were named New England’s #1 Elite Diamond Dealer, an award given by Mitsubishi, and reading our reviews online.

They decided to install two indoor units, with one outdoor condenser. One ductless mini-split unit was placed in the kitchen, while another was put over the doorway of their new addition. Because these units offer both cooling and heating, the home owners were now able to use their new addition all year long.

These new ductless mini-split heating and cooling units will not only keep the house more comfortable, but also have multiple benefits compared to the the old window units.

For example, they are much quieter. No need to turn up the TV, or be bothered by the loud humming of a window unit. Ductless mini-split units are also far more energy efficient. They not only take use less energy to do the job, but also do a better job using the energy they do spend!

One of the other great things about ductless split systems, especially compared to a traditional system, is that they can work independently of each other. This means that while their kitchen unit is turned on, the one in the addition can still be off, saving energy and money.

A traditional heating and cooling system would be struggling to make the entire house the same temperature, causing the energy use to increase, and the bills to follow suit.  While the new mini split ac regulates the separate rooms and their temperatures with ease.

Now this home is cool in the summer, warm in the winter, and the windows are free from nasty old window units!

Lincoln, MA Home Installs Ductless Heating and Cooling System

Lincoln, MA home installs ductless AC cooling system

You may have a heating and air conditioning system that does the job well, but are you missing out on monthly savings by continuing to use an inefficient system?

It's not uncommon to have a decent HVAC system, but still have those small spots in the house that don't seem be the right temperature.

In this Lincoln, MA rancher, the living room was the issue. They had a fine heating system installed, but when the summer came around the living room stayed warm no matter what.

They looked online and decided to give NETR Inc. a call after checking out some of our reviews. They also noticed that we specialize in the solution that checks off all the boxes for them: a ductless cooling system!

Problem: The homeowner wanted to find a cooling solution for the living room. They wanted something that was low maintenance, highly efficient, and cost effective.

Solution: They decided to go with a ductless cooling only system from Mitsubishi. They didn't need it to heat, because they already have a heating system that works well but needed that extra something to keep the living room cool in the summer. This checked off all the boxes!

As stated before, the homeowners had a few requests when it comes to the new cooling system they wanted installed. The first was they wanted something that was either maintenance free, or very low maintenance.

Luckily for them, ductless AC units are exactly that. They have a simple filter that is easy to remove, clean off, and replace. This offers very minimal upkeep, which is exactly what they were looking for.

Ductless Cooling System Benefits

Another request for their new ductless cooling system was that it be cost effective and energy efficient. These two features complement each other, and luckily are some of the backbones that this technology is built on.

Having multiple ductless units is extremely efficient. Unlike traditional systems, they don't have to cool the entire home, just the space desired. A lot of wasted energy in traditional systems is due to unnecessary rooms being cooled.

For instance, if there is a guest bedroom that is never used, or a dining room the family only eats in occasionally, a traditional system would still be using energy to cool these unused rooms off.

However, a ductless split unit has its own control, and can be turned on, shut off, or simply adjusted when it's needed.

This doesn't mean they should always turn their AC off in the summer, because no one wants to walk into a hot and muggy home, but instead keep it at a modest temp, and lower it a bit once you get home!

More Tips About Ductless Units

To go along with this individual control, it's very helpful to have multiple ductless units in the home. If you were to have one in each bedroom, all the people sleeping in them could decide how hot or cool they want the room to be.

This is the system that can finally end the epic battle of the thermostat adjusting that goes on in homes everyday! If you want your room at 70, while your kids like the rooms a little warmer, say 74, that's not an issue at all with multiple ductless units.

As a result of this energy saving, the bills should be lower than if you had any other system!

A traditional system would cost more, even with zoned thermostats around the house, the energy bills would be higher than in a ductless system.

The ductless cooling system also runs for cheaper than a window unit. Having energy efficient equipment will go a long way to making sure the bills don't get out of control.

Another great feature about this ductless cooling system is that it runs quietly. A traditional unit can be noisy, and a window unit is loud.

This ductless AC will run very quietly, not forcing you to turn the TV up, or adjust how you are living. The only difference will be how much more comfortable the room is now that the heat is properly managed!

Replacing Window Units with a Multi Zone Ductless System in a Concord, MA Rancher

Concord, MA ranch home replaces window AC units with Mitsubishi ductless HVAC system

Sometimes you don't need to replace everything about your HVAC system to make your home comfortable but using a supplemental system can fix the comfort problems and lower your energy bills.

That was the case for this ranch style home in Concord, MA. They had been using an oil F.H.W. baseboard heating system in the winter, with window air conditioning units in the summer.

Problem: The home didn't have any central cooling system, and the heat was an older oil system. They needed to get rid of their window units and add supplemental heating to the master bedroom and family room.

Solution: We were able to install a Mitsubishi 2 Zone Ductless Cooling and Heating System. We put in one outdoor unit, and two indoor units between the master bedroom and family room.

These dual zone ductless systems can do the cooling and the heating, independently of each other, helping to save energy.

Dragging out old window air conditioning units every year can be exhausting, mentally and physically. They are an old solution when it comes to cooling a home in the summer, and they come with a lot of drawbacks.

They're noisy, use a lot of energy, and never keep the room at the proper temperature. Things are rarely perfect when it comes to window units. This homeowner knew they weren't a permanent solution, and decided that they had to go.

As for the heating, the baseboard system wasn't bad, it could become expensive if the price of oil goes up, but still it didn’t need to be completely replaced. These homeowners knew that if they could install something that would help with the heating situation, while also cooling, then that was the way to go.

Starting the Project

They decided to give us a call after reading online reviews, as well as looking into even more reviews about Mitsubishi Ductless products. We recommended to go with a two- zone ductless system.

Unlike traditional central air conditioning and heating systems, you don't have to have set the temperature for the entire house, which runs up energy bills by cooling or heating unnecessary rooms. This heating and cooling system will allow them to heat or cool the area with the ductless unit in it independently.

With one unit in the master bedroom and another in the family room, they can turn one off while it isn't needed, or run it at a more modest setting, rather than wasting energy on an unused room.

Because the home is a rancher, these dual zone ductless units should be able to do a great job of cooling during the summer and providing the proper amount of heat to help the oil system in the winter.

They’re also a great addition for the fall and spring because the temperatures can be so unpredictable from day to day. Instead of turning on your entire heating system for these days, simply adjust the temperature on the ductless units.

Two zone ductless units can adjust with a single degree, and you don't have to wait long for them to be effective.

The ductless units are also much quieter than the window units. If you have several window units running, it's can be very loud.  Now the homeowners don't have to turn up the TV to overpower the sound of the window units. You can barely tell the ductless units are running.

MA to Ductless HVAC Cools a Home Office in Revere, MA

Ductless HVAC installation in Revere, MAClimate control is important for a home office. Working from home is great, but there are plenty of possible distractions. Dealing with a room that’s too hot or too cold shouldn’t be one of them.

A homeowner in Revere, MA was ready to upgrade his air conditioning for this reason. He uses the spare bedroom in his colonial home for work. With no central air, the room got pretty hot in the summer. It was time to remedy that.

But, this homeowner wasn’t just looking for a quick fix. He wanted something efficient, cost-effective and low-maintenance. After all, working from home means there’s no one else to take care of the air conditioning if something goes wrong — or to pay for it.

Before he even called NETR, our homeowner knew what he wanted. Ductless HVAC units would provide the efficient custom cooling he wanted. In fact, he already had Mitsubishi ductless units in other areas of his home.

This time, he reached out to NETR thanks to our great reputation. The homeowner read all our five-star reviews for installation. And, he saw that we are the top-rated Diamond Dealer for Mitsubishi products in New England. We didn’t let him down.

Problem: A spare bedroom/office had no air conditioning. The room would get too hot in the summer.

Solution: Installed a Mitsubishi ductless HVAC unit with an outdoor heat pump.

Ductless HVAC in a Colonial Home

Mitsubishi ductless unit in Revere, MA home officeDuctless units offer all the power of central air. But, you don’t have to worry about the heavy-duty, costly installation that comes with duct work. And, you can choose to treat your whole home or just one part of it.

Like central air, a ductless system starts with an outdoor unit. In this case, we installed a new heat pump condenser on the outside of the home near the bedroom. It’s actually close the pump handling other parts of the house.

From there, the cool air from the heat pump travels into the house through small, flexible piping. This is a big difference from old HVAC systems.

Ducts and vents are usually at least a foot wide. This makes it difficult to retrofit them in a house. It’s also very expensive. However, the piping for ductless HVAC is less than five inches thick and can bend around corners.

This means we just need to drill a small hole outside the home and another in the room we’re treating. The flexible piping runs easily through the walls. It fits in between the studs and can be snaked through. We don’t need to tear apart any walls or build anything new to fit it in.

This makes ductless HVAC useful for colonials. Many of these houses were built well before central air conditioning was popular in homes. Some were around before air conditioning was even an option.

As a result, many times central air is very hard to retrofit. Installers have to get creative when planning out duct work. This usually means giving up closet space or attics for all the equipment. Sometimes, installers have to build out new pathways near ceiling and along walls to make room.

With ductless HVAC, however, that’s not a problem. Since the piping is small and easy to run, our installers can fit it just about anywhere it’s needed.

Zoned Cooling with Ductless Units

We mentioned drilling a small hole in the room that’s being treated. Fortunately, the hole is covered by the ductless unit itself.

The unit is a plain, rectangular box that hangs high up on the wall. It’s what circulates the cool air through the room. It’s also a big part of creating zoned hvac in the home.

Using ductless units allows you to treat different rooms or areas in your home as separate zones. Then, you can heat and cool each one by itself.

HOW DOES DUCTLESS WORK?

This is because each unit has its own thermostat. Usually, central air conditioning uses one central thermostat. When it gets to the temperature you want, the system shuts off. When it gets too hot, it turns back on.

But, that doesn’t mean every part of the house is the same temperature. This is because the thermostat only gives a reading for the area where it’s located. When this happens, you get uneven cooling.

This occurs when the system shuts off before another area of the house gets cool enough. Or, a room that stays cool gets too cold. This is because the air conditioning stays on while the rest of the home catches up.

It’s common, then, for upstairs rooms to be hotter than basements or first floors. If the thermostat is downstairs, the system turns off before the bedrooms cool down.

With ductless units, this isn’t a problem. The new unit we put in the bedroom/office has its own thermostat. Now, our homeowner can set just that room to the temperature he wants.

If the rest of the house cools down before this room, that’s fine. This unit will keep working until it’s got the right temperature.

And, that efficiency does more than make a home more comfortable. It also saves the homeowner money.

Saving Money with Mitsubishi Ductless Units

A big draw of ductless HVAC is saving money each month. These systems use less energy than central air or window air conditioners. Therefore, they have less of an impact on your energy bills.

One way these systems do this is by being energy efficient. Mitsubishi ductless units are Energy Star-certified. They pass government standards showing they use less energy than comparable systems.

Next, setting each unit by itself helps save energy. As we discussed, not every unit needs to be working if just one area needs to be cooled. The longer they’re turned off, the less money it takes to keep the house cool.

There’s also upfront savings. Today, energy providers often provide incentives for homeowners to install better equipment that uses less energy. This usually comes in the form of cash rebates.

Using ductless HVAC units instead of duct work or window units made this homeowner eligible for a money-back offer. We directed him to Mass Save, an organization of New England energy providers that promote energy efficiency. They offered a $100 rebate for this installation.

Now, our homeowner can work in comfort in the warmer months. And, he’ll save money doing so.

Revere Homeowners Replace Window ACs with Mitsubishi Ductless Mini Split

Ductless HVAC Units Replace Window Air Conditioners In Revere, MA

Window air conditioners are a great way to cool your home. That is, if it’s 1985 and you don’t have central air.

Using window AC units always had some drawbacks. But, for a while, they were the best option for some people. However, as technology improves that becomes less and less true. Suddenly, those downsides seem much worse. And, the cooling they do provide doesn’t cut it anymore.

A couple in Revere, MA, realized this recently. As another summer approached, they weren’t looking forward to their climate control options. Keeping their home cool meant dragging those old window ACs out of storage. Then, they had to clean and install them.

Once they were in the windows, our homeowners wouldn't get as much sunlight. They couldn’t open the window to get a breeze now and then. Plus, the window AC units were noisy, drafty, and make their energy bills skyrocket.

When it was time to make a change, the couple called N.E.T.R. INC.. They’d read the many five-star reviews our sales and installation departments received.

And, our homeowners wanted to use Mitsubishi products. The company has a great reputation for quality, cost-effective air conditioning units. N.E.T.R. INC. is the number-one Elite Diamond Dealer Contractor in New England for Mitsubishi ductless. Now, the homeowners knew we could deliver the system they needed. And, we were up to challenge.

Problem:Homeowners in Revere, MA wanted to replace their old window unit air conditioners. They were noisy, drafty and difficult to maintain and install.

Solution: N.E.T.R. Inc. installed a two-zone Mitsubishi ductless mini split system.

Ductless Mini Splits Replace Window Air Conditioners

Ductless units replace window air conditioners in Revere, MA

Mitsubishi ductless mini splits were the obvious choice here. For years, the couple used window air conditioners in their living room and master bedroom. In homes like this, it’s common for those rooms to need extra climate control.

People spend a lot of time in their living rooms during the day. And, like many living rooms, this one had large windows. Those windows let in a lot of sunlight — and heat, especially when they’re closed. With no circulation in the room, the heat coming through the glass stays right in the room.

Many people prefer their bedrooms cooler than other rooms, since it’s more comfortable for sleeping. Opening the windows can let in cool air at night, but that also lets in outside noises that can keep you awake.

Meanwhile, the window AC units were getting old. They were noisy and inefficient, and the homeowners just needed to treat those rooms, not the whole house.

That’s where ductless mini splits come in. They offer the strength of central air with the flexibility of window units. And, they’re quieter and more efficient than both!

Creating Zoned HVAC with Ductless Mini Splits

Ductless mini split ACs offer strength and flexibility by creating multi-zoned HVAC. This lets our homeowners control how warm or cool different parts of the house become.

It starts with an outdoor heat pump compressor unit. This generates the cool air that will treat the house. The cool air travels through the home through small, flexible piping. The piping takes the place of old-fashioned ductwork. Instead of being at least a foot wide, it is only a few inches in diameter.

As a result, our installers don’t need to retrofit your home with ductwork, which is very expensive to plan out and install. Plus, we often must do extra construction work to create pathways for it.

However, with ductless HVAC we simply run the small piping for ductless mini splits through the walls. We don’t need to build anything or rip down any walls to put the piping where we need it.

See Ductless Case studies

Then, the piping connects to an air handler in a room. These are usually mounted high on a wall. In the case of this home, we put one above the picture window in the bedroom. The other went the corner of the living room near the ceiling across from the window.

The indoor AC unit is what circulates the air through the room. Each one is whisper-quiet and has its own thermostat.

This means our homeowners can set each ductless unit to a different temperature. If they want, they won’t run them both at the same time. They can choose to operate one AC system when they’ll be using that room, or they can set each to the same temperature.

This is what’s known as zoned HVAC. It’s the ability to treat each room, or area of your house, as a different zone for climate control. Each indoor ductless unit conditions a different zone.

This lets our homeowners heat or cool each part of their home exactly how they want it. And, they get to save money doing so.

Saving Money with Mitsubishi Ductless Mini Splits

Ductless mini splits go a long way toward saving money on monthly heating bills. For starters, they’re just more efficient than older heating and air conditioning units. Thanks to newer technology, they can cool a room faster than central air that uses ductwork. This means they don’t run as often as an older central air unit.

The less it’s on, the less energy it uses. That means, less energy you are paying for each month. And, they don’t need to run as frequently as a window unit. Most of those models are turned on and off manually.

For these reasons, ductless HVAC systems like the Mitsubishi ductless mini split one we installed here are Energy Star-certified. They meet requirements by the federal government showing they use less energy than other units. This results in lower monthly bills.

Our homeowners also enjoyed some upfront savings. This came thanks to Mass Save. That’s a group of utility companies in Massachusetts working to help homeowners and businesses save energy.

The system we installed was eligible for a $200 rebate from Mass Save. We made sure our homeowners took advantage of it.

And from there, our homeowners are saving each month in the warm weather on their energy bills. And, they’re enjoying better, quieter climate control at the same time.

Multi-Family Revere, MA Home Gets HVAC Upgrade with Ductless Units

Multi-family Revere MA home gets HVAC upgrade with ductless Panels

Ductless HVAC is great for a multi-family home. It lets the homeowner control the heating and cooling separately in different parts of the house. Ductless systems can also be used along with other systems to make sure the entire home is treated properly.

Our homeowner in Revere, MA already had an idea about this. When they called us, they already had a ductless cooling system,  but it was an older model and needed replacement.

For heating, the home had forced water hot water baseboard heat. There are some benefits to this method, however, there’s also not as much flexibility as a ductless system. It’s also not as energy-efficient.

The homeowner knew he wanted to expand their ductless HVAC system. Along with cooling, they also wanted to heat their home with ductless HVAC. But, they didn’t want to stick with the brand that was breaking down. And, they wanted a local company with a great reputation. NETR fit the bill.

Problem: A multi-family home in Revere, MA wanted to upgrade from forced hot water baseboard heat. They also needed to replace an aging ductless cooling system.

Solution: Installed a Mitsubishi HyperHeat Ductless Heat Pump outdoor unit and indoor Mitsubishi ductless HVAC unit.

Ductless HVAC in a Multi-Family Home

Our homeowner was ready to use more ductless units in his multi-family home. This included supplementing his forced water heat with a Mitsubishi ductless system

There are a few reasons people prefer forced hot water heat. It’s quieter than gas or electric heat from a furnace, and the air usually feels more “fresh” or clean.

This is due to how it works. Water is heated up by a boiler. Heat from this water enters the room through a radiator or baseboard. Then, it warms the room through infusion, similar to how tea steeps in hot water.

In this home, the heat enters the room through baseboard heaters. The drawback here, however, is that their baseboard system uses only one thermostat. This means the entire house is set to the same temperature.

That’s not always great for multi-family homes. Different tenants may prefer their area warmer or cooler than others.

Then, there’s the problem of uneven heating. Heat tends to rise, but the thermostat is downstairs. This often results in the top floor being too hot, allowing hot or cool air to get trapped in stairwells.

As a result, the family upstairs can end up with a much different temperature than downstairs. This happens even though the thermostat reads one temperature for the whole house.

In the summertime, cooling is also a challenge. This home has no central air.

To remedy this, our homeowner wanted to convert to a ductless system. Ductless systems work differently than forced water, gas, or electric heat. And, when it comes to cooling, they’re easier to install than central air. Ductless HVAC is also much more efficient than a standalone wall or window air conditioner.

How Ductless HVAC Works

Mitsubishi ductless HVAC unit in Revere, MA

Ductless HVAC systems work by moving cool or warm air through very small, flexible piping. Once inside the home, the air gets distributed through whisper-quiet units. This sets them apart from other HVAC options.

With many older HVAC systems, cool air or forced heat travels through ductwork. Then, it enters the rooms of the house through vents. However, those ducts are very large. At the least, they’re a foot wide.

This is often a challenge in homes that are converted to multi-family units. It costs a lot to move ductwork around to properly treat separate apartments.

It’s also difficult to find places to fit the ducts. Many times, installers use closet space or have to build passages along walls. This eats up storage space and makes rooms feel smaller.

That’s not a problem with ductless systems, however. With these, the warm or cool air comes from a heat pump outside the home. Then, that small piping is very easy to place. It’s not much larger than electrical wiring.

Our installers simply drill a small hole in the side of the home near an outdoor heat pump. Then, they snake the piping through the walls. It fits easily between studs. There’s no need to tear down walls or anything like that.

Finally, the piping enters the room through a small hole in the wall. However, that hole is covered up by the ductless unit itself. The units are usually mounted high on a wall near the ceiling.

Each unit has its own thermostat that comes with a remote control. This allows the homeowner or tenant to control each unit separately.

In this home, the unit is in the stairwell. This way, the homeowner can add a little more heat in the winter. This helps even out the temperatures in both apartments. In the summer, he can cool the area down as heat rises to the top floor.

HOW DOES DUCTLESS WORK?

Saving Money with Mitsubishi Ductless HVAC Units

Already, the home had a ductless cooling unit in the stairwell. However, it wasn’t a Mitsubishi unit. After a few years, it was vibrating, making a lot of noise and leaking.

Now, our homeowner has a top-notch ductless HVAC system. It will run for yearsand, will save him money in the process. Here’s how.

Mitsubishi ductless units are Energy Star-certified. They meet government standards that show these systems use less energy than similar HVAC options. Using less energy means lower monthly energy bills.

On top of that, we’re able to place the units in the best possible spot in the house. This makes a big difference over duct work or baseboard heat.

Once those older systems are installed, it’s difficult and costs a lot of money to move. By contrast, installing a ductless unit is a simple process. Now, the homeowner has one in the spot where it will do the best work.

This all amounts to savings over time and our homeowner got a big chunk of change back right away. That’s thanks again to the units being energy-efficient.

Massachusetts has a few organizations that help people make their homes more energy-efficient. They do so in part by offering incentives for people to upgrade their HVAC systems. If a person chooses a new system that’s energy efficient, they can get a cash rebate.

The system we installed in this multi-family home actually qualified for two such rebates. One was from Mass Save, a collective of utility companies in the state. The other was from the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center. This is a group that advocates for clean energy usage.

In all, our homeowner received $1,125 in rebates when he installed his new ductless HVAC system. Now, he’s spending less money each month to heat and cool his home.
